Question posted in the Landlord Tenant Law category relating to Western Cape
Good morningtrust that you are well?I have a question and hoping that you could guide me to the correct person? We live in a complex which has 6 units. We are tenants in that complex and get our electrity bill from our rental agent who in turn gets it from the Body Corporate. We saw now that they charge us the higher rate (above 600KW) even though we only use between 200-400 units) So instead of charging us R2.35 they charge us R4.35 per unit. The reason for this is that they say they take the whole units and divide it amongst each of us (6 of them) and so we only get the first 100kw charged the cheaper rate and thereafter they charge us the higher rate even if its way under the first 600kw. Is this legal? We do each have a submeter but they obviously take the main meter and then divide it between the 6 units. They are not very forthcoming and have been ignoring us for months on end.We just want to find our if this is the correct way of billing us?Thank you for your assistance. Kind regards,Sandra
