Hello. Here's what happened: I accidentally and unknowingly scratched someone's car in a mall parking whilst trying to park. I parked my car (about 3 meters from the car I had scratched) and went into the mall with my mom and came out about 4 hours later. A note was tucked into my windshield wipers, written in afrikaans. I asked google to translate, and it was from the person whose car was scratched, saying you scratched my car, the car guard saw it, the security cameras have the footage, here's my number, contact me to discuss. no threats no rudeness just straightforward. he had noted my car's plate number and had included his name, number, and license plate number in the note. i immediately whatsapp him to apologise and offer to help repair any damage. he replies, saying he will go to the panel beaters the next day and hopefully they can fix it for a low price and he will be in touch. I replied again reiterating how sorry i was and that yes please he must let me know how it goes. he then deletes his message, and didn't contact me. I sent a brief follow up message the next day, he has not replied. I genuinely wanted to help and take responsibility but now i'm worried he's going to try and take legal action to get more money - why else would he not want to tell me about the repair and how much it would cost.

i want to know what to do next. it is not my car, it is my dad's, and i'm not a minor. i have no criminal record and obviously don't want one. does this man have a case against me? what can i do to not get into legal trouble? i just want to pay for the damage, if there even is any, and get it over with. if he doesn't want my money this is ok with me, I just don't want to get into trouble with the law. please advise.
