Could you advise how we can achieve a financially independent permanent residence permit in South Africa.

Hi there again Susan and thank you for your question,

The easiest way of going about obtaining a permanent residence permit is through a company called VFSGlobal. Their website is listed here: https://www.vfsglobal.com/dha/southafrica/financially-independent.html

For only a small fee, they will assist you in completing and submitting all of the supporting documents to the Dept of Home Affairs for the permit. This process is much easier than trying to do it yourself, especially if you are not currently based in South Africa. 

The above webpage contains a LOT of information about the process, and also the documents you need. The entire thing can be done and tracked online - which is nice.

Thanks Patrick, I've noticed on their website they have an office in George. As we will be in Knysna for 3 months from Mid Jan we'll see if we can get the ball rolling then. Easier for us there as we live in Portugal most of the time. Thanks Susan
