Question posted in the Property Law category relating to Western Cape

Good day.

I live in a gated community in Capetown South Africa. The building is completely grey. The garage doors are the roll up kind that is brown. However due to many years the color is oxidized. I have decided to replace my door with a charcoal grey door. The trustee community decided that my door color should be bronze as it's the closet color to the current brown oxidized doors.

Now, in the code of conduct nowhere is it mentioned as to the color of the door only that it should be & I quote 'All doors including garage doors, security gates, windows, window frames & other external fittings must conform in quality & appearance with similar items generally installed elsewhere in the building or common property'

After extensive research I have found a door replacement that fits all the criteria. The trustee community however insist I fit a bronze door as it is close to the brown oxidized doors that at some point would have to be replaced. I have asked the question a few times to no reply 'is the grey door of choice( that matches most of the complex) going to devalue the complex or be an eye sore?' No reply instead I am basically treated in a manner of you install the bronze door and that is that.

Could there be any major backlash if I just went ahead and fitted the grey door as the architectural code mentions nothing about colour & in my opinion vs theirs the grey would be better suit than the bronze.

Thank you in advance for any assistance provide.

Regards,
