Question posted in the Landlord Tenant Law category relating to Gauteng
Good day,
Can your landlord make you pay for the installation of pre paid electricity meters. We were informed via e mail by the rental agent that the meters are to be installed & that the metering co would contact us within the next few weeks, the very next day the mail from the metering co was received, this was yesterday 17/02/2017, with the attached application forms for pre paid or a monthly account agreements. Pre paid deal is for R800 & the monthly agreement R1015 over 2 months. A neighbour phoned the metering co & asked if she understood the mail correctly, would we the tenants have to pay for these meters, the reply was yes. She asked what happens when we move out one day & the reply was, then you take the keypad with you...?? We do not know how the meters work, so cannot comment on what the metering company has told us regarding the keypad.
We understood that the installation costs are for the landlord. Please advise.
