My prepaid water meter stopped reading 2 months into its installation and I did not inform the agency responsible for administering the water. A year down the line my water was cut off and was served with a note that says I tampered with the meter, which is not the case. I called in to find out whether I can pay them electronically for the penalty imposed, they still insulted me by saying I tampered with the device. I am prepared to pay the fine for not being honest with them and notifying them when the device stopped monitoring my water usage, but my problem is their phrasing of the imposed penalty as “Tampering.” Where do I stand with regards to that?
