Question posted in the General Law category relating to Gauteng

Good Day,

my fiancé recently left me for another woman and has been harassing and threatening me. He left some clothing and other items at my house and has demanded I send them back to him or he will lay a claim of theft against me with the police. He left willingly and knowingly left some things behind. He is British and is currently back in South Africa staying with his new partner.

When I refused to send the things to him - offering for him to collect them - he then demanded to know who told me of his indescretions and cheating. When I refused to tell him anything he then threatened to disclose personal information which would threaten my job if I didn't so as he has demanded. I am now worried about job and my livelihood and want to know what legal routes I can take and what rights I have regarding him disclosing intimate and personal details which will significantly impact my life.

Hi there,

I see that you haven't made a payment for the question, but I'm going to assist you a little. If you want to ask a follow-up question, please make the required payment.

If you didn't actually steal the clothing and things, he can't lay charges of theft against you. The SAPS will just laugh at him. Also, if he does lay the charges against you, and the Investigating Officer contacts you, tell the IO that you've offered to let your ex-fiance collect the stuff on multiple occasions and that he actually left the stuff at your house!
