A Primary School child in our After Care at nursery school swore at a teacher.  It was mentioned to the mother upon collecting him.  She took him to the bathroom and gave him a hiding.  Then she took him to the classroom to apologise to the relevant teacher.  The mother was furious and it showed in her manner and language.  Many After Care children witnessed this event as well as the teacher who reported the incident to the mother.  (A few years ago a similar event took place and when the teacher intervened  the parent turned towards the teacher and verbally abused her - thus I set a rule that no-one is to intervene in such an event, but rather to call me, the owner, who will take it on.  Unfortunately I was ill on this specific day).  Another After Care child reported it to her mother who phoned me and threatened to report it to the police, i.e. the child abuse from the mother as well as the teacher who did not protect the child.  I asked her to give me time to look into the matter and speak to the mother first before we involve the police.  She however posted the event on Facebook, where the child's name was mentioned as well as the "school" and the teachers who did not intervene.  When the mother in question came to collect her child this afternoon, I explained to her that what happened the day before should not happen again at school, especially as many of the children are not exposed to such anger or language.  The mother who threatened us with the police came to me this afternoon, very upset and blamed me for caring more for the mother than the well-being of the child and that she will report the mother as well as the school to the Welfare Department.  I know I have this duty towards the children in my care, however, I tried to explain to her that my first duty is towards the family as a whole and that I would prefer to first sit down with both parents and explain the repercussions should this event happen again, but she insisted that I should inform the Welfare Department immediately, or else she would and that this could harm our school's reputation and hard work over the years - 26 years this April.  Kindly advise where I stand according to the law?
