Question posted in the Consumer Protection Law category relating to KwaZulu-Natal

I recently put a deposit/lay-bye on a diamond ring for 39990 at Golden Jewellers in Gateway, Durban. The deposit amount was 4000. However, the transaction is a day old(purchase date 31/08/2014)and i want to cancel this order. I specified to the merchant that i am not interested in the ring anymore. however he insisted he doesnt do refunds. This was not communicated to me when i laid the deposit and i have not signed an agreement in which this says so. Please help on the way forward. The merchant is not forcing me to choose another item from his store which i do not want, instead of refunding my money. What options do i have in this case
