Question posted in the General Law category relating to Western Cape

Good day
I just with like to enquire on a matter relating to my employment contract. I.T.O the Guideline for Implementation MFMIP and my contract it stated that “Should an intern breach the contract in place by resigning, the municipality may enforce the contract by asking the intern to pay back all the training related costs. On the same note, the municipality must do everything possible to retain trained interns’ at appropriate levels for sustainable capacity building efforts. ”
I with like to know should an(I) intern really pay back all training related cost as training is mandatory for all interns and we do not have an choice if we want do go or not and is an compliance requirement on the municipality’s part to send interns on training.
I also with like to know since the municipality may ask the intern to pay back training related cost does the intern have the choice not to pay back the cost cause clearly the sentences say “asking the intern to pay back all the training related costs” and not that the intern must pay back the training related cost.

I with really appreciate your response relating do this matter.

Thank You
