Question posted in the Landlord Tenant Law category relating to Gauteng

We have just moved into a town house that's being rented and are 9 days in. We found out today that the owner's brother lives across a driveway, a fact which the rental agent omitted. He has come knocking after a call from the rental agent telling him not to. He clearly doesn't care for the relationship between the agency and us as tenants.

Our issues are that of privacy and truthfulness. Why did the agency not disclose this detail? Something that would have prevented us from signing the lease. We are teriffic tenants and usually leave the house better than we found it, so we're not worried about how we live. We are concerned about him having visibility of everything we do.

Do we have any rights ito something like a "cool off" period where we could break the lease because of the omission especially since we are in the second week of of first month?

Can we leave without being penalised? What are our rights as tenants?
