Good day,

I'm seeking some clarity on an issue I'm having with a dealership. I purchased a vehicle in 2019, maintained it over the years and then recently wanted to trade it in for a new vehicle, only to find that the vehicle was a stolen recovery and that it's basically worthless (the term I've been told by two separate companies). They pointed out that the VIN number is different to the one on the license disc. This is something I was obviously aware of, but had no idea why that was the case, or especially, what the repercussions were. I have been told that my best course of action would be to go back to the original dealership and inform them that I would like to return the vehicle and cancel the contract due to misrepresentation, which I have done, but they have come back saying that they believe I have no case, that they didn't have to disclose that the vehicle was a stolen recovery, and are offering me around half of what even the book value is (which is substantially less than what I paid for it).Are they correct in that assessment? Would they legally get away with something like that if this went to court?
