Question posted in the General Law category relating to KwaZulu-Natal

Hi there,

When staying in a rental property we asked permission to install aircons. Permission was granted and we paid for the aircons and installation out of our own pocket. When moving out we took the aircons with us and repaired the walls and repainted so it looked exactly as it had been before.

We went through inspection on the 30th of January and our deposit was paid back to us in full on the 3rd or 4th of February. One whole month later we get an email saying the landlords claim they told us that the aircons were to remain as fixtures but this is not the case and there is nothing about this in writing. They want us to return and reinstall the aircons. Do they have a case? There was no agreement that they would remain a fixture and contacting us a month after our full deposit was paid back surely isn't okay?
