Question posted in the Family Law category relating to Western Cape
Dear Sir/Madam,
I hope this email finds you well. I would just like to inquire about the legal ramifications towards me from my spouse's actions. I got married at the Bellville in December 2010, and thereafter customary married in Dec 2012. I have since discovered that he entered into a Life Partnership Agreement with someone else last year September without my knowledge in order to gain citizenship for South Africa.
He has since used that Life Partnership agreement to sign leases, apply for loans, etc I assume in her name so that I can not access it. He has also formed a company as well, and the like. I don't work as I am still studying so have nil assets when compared to him. I would just like to know if such an agreement is legal/valid? is it bigamy?
Also, Will I be liable for any debt that he and her incur since I am the legal wife.
Any help in this regard will be greatly appreciated as I am really worried that I will be guilty by association. I have not the faintest clue what my legal rights are in this circumstance.
Thank you for your time in advance.
Kind regards,
Aasiyah
