Question posted in the Divorce Law category relating to Western Cape
Hi there
I am a South African divorced male currently residing in the United Arab Emirates. I'm planning to marry a Malaysian national in Malaysia and, as required by Malaysian law, I have to submit a letter of single status (letter of no impediment I guess). This apparently has to be attested by the Malaysian consulate in South Africa.
My questions are:
1. Do I have to physically go to South Africa to acquire this document?
2. Is it possible to hire a lawyer to process this?
The only proof of divorce I have is the original document served to me by the sheriff of the court. The law firm that processed the divorce was based in Fishoek, Western Cape, but the papers were served to me in Tzaneen, Limpopo in 2010
Thanking you in advance
Damien
