Question posted in the Divorce Law category relating to Gauteng
Married in community of property for 28 years. Never worked, housewife. I am 51 years old, with no qualifications or work experience. Left SA 9years ago. Live abroad. Have no properties. Husband asked for divorce. I only have cash = US$210 k. That is 50% of our estate. Can I claim maintenance? According to my husbands lawyer no court will grant maintenance if I have that cash amount. Consider that I need to buy a house, car, medical etc. Not much will be left to live from. What is your advice?
