Hi, I took out motor vehicle insurance with Budget Insurance over the phone in 2014. I was currently insured with Outsurance. I never received a policy document, welcome letter or any correspondence of any sort from Budget Insurance. It slipped my mind to cancell with Outsurance at the end of the following month when the Budget insurance came into effect.

In May 2016 the insured vehicle was written off in an accident. I claimed from Outsurance who paid out the claim. Still totally forgetting that I was also insured with Budget as I had not even received a notification of a premium increase that would have alerted me to the double insurance which I could have addressed at that point in time.

I have recently cancelled the Budget insurance policy but they are only prepared to refund 12 months premiums. I understand that I have made a foolish mistake but surely the comsumer protection act must offer some protection that they should at least refund all the premiums, at least from when the vehicle was written off.
