Question posted in the Landlord Tenant Law category relating to Eastern Cape

My mother rented a duplex flat which she occupied in December 2012. December 2013 the lease was then renewed for another year. March this year the esate agent contacted my mother to inform her that the owners (which is a trust) want to sell the premises for another investment. The estate agent then informed my father that the previous lease was not signed. My father went back to the agent to sign yet another lease but now for 6 months. A month later the agent informed my parents that the new lease was not accepted and we are now living month to month on the premises. Mid June, my parents received a notice of eviction from the estate agent, that stated they had to be out by 28 June. Mid July, my parents received yet another notice of eviction from the estate agent, that they had to be out by 31 July. My parents have received another letter today from an attorney stating that my parents WILL be out the premises by 15 August or face a court ordered eviction notice. I forgot to mention that the premises has now been sold.

1: My mother pays the rent on the 7th of every month as that is when she is paid her salary. Not once has my mother ever missed a payment on the rent.

2: My parents have now received 3 notices of eviction and all 3 were no where near a months notice.

3: As an estate agent, they flat out refused to even help my parents find another place to stay.

What I would like to know, as a tenant, in this situation what rights do my parents have with regards to this matter. As a family, we have all been looking for a new residence and with no such luck, have not yet found another place to rent.

My parents are in dire need of help with regards to this as they still have 2 children living with them.

Between the estate agent, the owners and their lawyer, they have no care in the world if my parents with children end up on the street with no roof over their heads.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.
