Question posted in the General Law category relating to Gauteng
Good day
In South Africa, is it possible to legally compel an organisation to request documents on your behalf?
I sold my BIG BOY motorcycle privately, in the begining of this year. Months later I recieved a request from the Licensing Dept, to pay to re-register a vechicle I no longer owned. I am desperate to have this vehicle removed from my name. I am told I need a duplicate copy of the owndership papers.
The licensing Dept assured me that in no way can I make this request, explaining that since the bike is technically still on BIG BOY's books and the vehicle is still under thier name, that THEY need to be the ones to request a duplicate copy of the ownership papers.
I did ask the team at Big Boy Headquarters to do so, in September. They said it would take about 10 working days to get a duplicate copy of the owndership papers, and that they would also levy an admin fee of aproximately R500.
Since then, nothing has been done. Every time I call them they assure me it is in process. I feel like I am being lied to.
Can I legally FORCE Big Boy to hand over the document? By the time next year rolls around I could still be waiting, and end up paying registration fees again, on a vehicle I no longer own.
Please help.
Kind Regards
Brett
