Me and I partner was renting a property and operated as a night club since and had a contract will the owner. But the owner has sold the property a few years back. We had a meeting with the new owner which we had an agreement to continue renting the property and that he will provide us with a new contract with the new rent amount etc. We have continued paying the agreed rent amount as verbally discussed with the new owner. In September 2020 he informed us that he will be terminating our contract. Our business has been closed since March 2020 with the announcement of the lockdown and are still closed. We informed the new owner that he must provide us with terminating of contract and notice period in writting before we remove our property. To date we havent received any notices in writting. Today we just received a sms from owner is we have removed our property from his premises if not we must remove before tonight because he will be changing the locks tonight. Can the owner do something like this and what can we do?

In my opinion, you probably have a month-to-month lease, which means that the owner can give you 1 months' notice of termination. It doesn't need to be in writing, but it always helps if it is in writing.
