On January 2021 I joined a gym called Edge Fitness Club in Gonubie, in the Eastern Cape. Before joining the club I had informed the sales agent that I would be moving to a different area (Beacon Bay or surrounding area) and therefore I did not want to join the gym as I would be moving in March and it would not serve my needs. A gym that was closer to home as I did not want to commute because I just had a baby.He then informed me that they would be opening a new branch in Beacon Bay and it would be ready by March and they would therefore transfer my membership to the Beacon Bay branch. I agreed to join the gym under these conditions. March came and the Beacon Bay branch is not open and they claim that it would maybe be done by August and the best that they can do for me right now is to freeze my account and I can join a gym that offers a month to month service.The first issue I have is the fact that now I am not able to gym. The month to month gym is way more expensive than what I have been paying. Lastly I am moving back to JHB next year as I was working from home because of COVID and my partner was based here in East London and I needed his support with our new born baby.All I want is to cancel this membership and join virgin active who is available nationally. Please assist me.

I see that you haven't made a payment for the question, but I'm going to assist you a little. If you want to ask a follow-up question, please make the required payment.

I think that you have legitimate grounds to cancel the contract based on your understanding that they would open a new gym in Beacon Bay, but failed to do so. I would definitely take this up with management and complain. Otherwise, cancel the debit order.

Hi Patrick,

Thank you for your response. I have complained to the manager and asked him for a reason that he won't allow me to cancel and only wants me to freeze my account. He has not respoded.
