Question posted in the Malpractice Law category relating to Gauteng
My husband was admitted at Pretoria Heart Hospital for COVID on the 11th of January 2021 around 16:00. On that day blood was extracted from his right arm by Vermaak Pathologist. According to him, he has never in his life experienced so much pain from drawing blood. The blood did not come from that draw. After an attempt to draw it started jerking and painful. Round about 11:00 the same night, the swollen started the pain continued jerking. I was treated with a bandage for 2 days. Mt hand turned black. After my release at the hospital my hand was still jerking and painful. We approach Vermaak about what had happened but they refused to take the blame. We also consulted with the specialist who confii that his nerves has been damaged. His three fingers, index, thumb, middle finger and partial of his ring finger has been affected.. He cannot eat, hold anything. His arm has lost muscles. To date his continue to pain and jerk and he lives on pain tablets. Vermaak has paid for his physiotherapy and x-rays for the swollen arm. Vermaak does not want to take the blame for negligence. Please advise 071 418 9660

Hi there,
I see that you haven't made a payment for the question, but I'm going to assist you a little. If you want to ask a follow-up question, please make the required payment, even if it is R150 or R200.
It sounds as if the doctor/nurse who attempted to draw blood didn't find an artery - hence the issue.
What you need to do is to sue the hospital for the injuries, pain and suffering, and the cost of possibly a further operation to fix the issue - if it can be fixed.
