Question posted in the Landlord Tenant Law category relating to Western Cape
hi , i am the tenanat , signed a 1year lease ,it expired nov 2023 , been staying on the property , was asked in december via whatsup if i would like to continue to stay , i replied yes please ,for as long as possible, response from landlord was ok, no new lease was signed .
june ,the landlord wanted to increase rent by 15% , with a10% increase anually,we both agreed to a 7.5% incraese but i did not agree with a 10% increase anually , i paid the new months rent , asked them to relook at the 10% anual increasre , still no new lease signed yet , also my deposit i paid was not put into a intersest acc - the landlord used it
i then was told they are giving me a 30 days to vacate end of aug 2024, as there daughter is moving to cape town and she can stay in the house
Q1- once lease expired ,does this now become a month to month lease - we both agreed to the new extension of the lease
