Question posted in the Property Law category relating to Eastern Cape

Good day,

i was you could provide me with insight as to whether or not i am within my legal rights.

i currently am and have been renting a flat for almost a decade now.

Initially, when i applied for housing i was asked to provide a number of various legal documents including recent payslips for the company i then worked for, which is standard practice.

Over the years of renewing my lease on an annual basis, not once was i ever asked to provide updated information regarding my working habits. Since i applied for residency, i have had multiple different positions in a variety of industries.

Most recently, they "caught wind" that i no longer work for the same company and have demanded that i provide them with the last 6 months payslips.

My question is, am i legally obligated to provide this information? As it seems that this is a feeble attempt to extort more money out of me.

As per regulation, i have been keeping up with payments and accomodating of every annual increase to my rental fee.

If you could provide me with any insight, i would be most grateful.

Your faithfully,
