Hello, I am in a predicament.
I work for a company currently and I started in November 2013 as a clerk and signed permanent with a 15% increase in March 2014. In April one of our ladies in the creditors department was going to maternity leave and I was studying in that stream so I asked for the opportunity to sit in her chair at no extra cost just for the experience and reference for my CV. We all agreed and that was so.
They had been struggling to fill the position I am currently in, so I asked for the opportunity once again to prove myself and I was given the chair on condition that I get an extra R2 000 on my salary as a retention bonus. Retention bonus meaning, as of the day I started in August 2014 to July 2016 I will be indebted to the company for R48 000 if I decided to leave in that period. I signed the contract. In November when my salary was suppose to be revaluated nothing happened and I was told to wait for the annual increase due in March 2015.
I got a new job that offers much more than they can offer me (they said). So they expect me to pay the full R48 000 for leaving as per the contract or R12 000 for the months I've been paid that R2 000. Because I am resigning now, they said they will not give me the annual increase money due this month end because I have already resigned and they will not pay me the R2 000 for the retention bonus so I am walking away with peanuts yet again.
Is there anything I can do? Please kindly assist.

Unfairly under paid and still owing them, I don't understand.
