Question posted in the General Law category relating to Eastern Cape
My mother bought a house from some lady in Peddie in Eastern Cape - the mistake she made was trusting the lady and paying in full before getting the title deed and transferring the house into her name. She does have documents that prove the purchase, but they could not transfer ownership because the house was owing the municipal bill for water. My mother has been paying this water bill for about 2 years but it goes up in ridiculous amounts - we are starting to suspect that since the house is in her name, my mom has been paying for the lady’s water bill as well because the area this house is in rarely has running water for the bill to be as high as it is. Now the lady is claiming that the municipality is forcing her to resell the house so she can repay the debt. Which she shouldn’t be able to do as the house does not belong to her and my mother already built a second house in the same yard.
