Question posted in the Landlord Tenant Law category relating to Gauteng
Dear Attorney,
So i stay in a rented complex, and have 2 tenants in the 3 bedroom flat. One of the tenants decided to inform me on 1st Aug that she wants to move out the same night. She then indicated that she has spoken with a cousin who wants a place to stay. So i agreed to let her pack her furniture with the understanding that she will bring the cousin the next day. That didn't happen, and when I enquired about my full rent, she told me that she is within her rights to leave the flat without prior notice.
This is the same person who asked me, two weeks before July month-end that I should get a parking spot for her partner. When I asked about payment around 28th July she still didn't say that she will be leaving etc, instead she asked me to give her a bit of time. This is something I had done in the past, wherein i allowed her to pay rent a bit later. Do I have legal recourse to get my money?
