Question posted in the Consumer Protection Law category relating to Gauteng
Hi there,
I'm wondering you can give me some advice.
My father sent his car in to get his gear box replaced, however, the guy who said he could do it and it would only take a week, he struggled to find parts, which I understand. But he left it standing in someone's back yard, damaging more parts of the car. It has been an on going struggle to try and find where this guy is holding the car, what he has done with it, and a struggle to find the money that he insesintly asks for.
This has been going on for 3 and a half years, resulting in us spending over R130 000.
The mechanic who said he could fix the car in the first place, has spent money out of his own pocket, without telling us, and now he is saying that we must still pay him more, even after the R130000. He sent it to a different mechanic, and then the car was supposedly running, with no problems. We have asked for proof, that the car exists, and he refuses. He still will not give us any information. He just asks for more and more money.
We have got every single message between my father and the original mechanic, every single proof of payment, and all the paperwork of the car.
We cannot afford to pay this guy anything else, however we cannot live with one car between three people. We cannot even buy a new car, because this idiot has basically been playing us for the past 3 years. It is enough, and something needs to be done.
Kind regards
Victoria
