Question posted in the Landlord Tenant Law category relating to Gauteng

Good day

Please assist. I gave notice of cancellation of lease in sufficient time, confirmed that the notice was correct and accepted and moved as I should have on the date indicated. My ex however refused to move. The estate agency now wants to hold me responsible for the costs of rental for the period that she refused to move (she is still in the property) of R67k.

I could not stay in the property for fear of false accusations of assault or worse sexual assualt. I also had no recourse to force her to move. How will I be able to defend myself and not be held responsible for paying the R67k as it would be grossly unfair.

Kind regards
